Kawailoa estate Hale Komodo sells for $12 million

HONOLULU – (April 12, 2018) – Locations – Hawaii’s leading real estate firm –represented the buyer of Ka-wailoa estate Hale Komodo on Oahu’s North Shore. The home, which sold for $12 million dollars, set a record for the North Shore, exceeding the previous record of $7.8 million, set in 2017, of the sale of the adjacent property to surfer Kelly Slater.

Originally listed at $25 million in 2015, the home was on the market for more than one thousand days and saw a 48-percent reduction in price before Locations REALTOR-ASSOCIATES® Sean Yano and Matty Liu found a buyer—a surfing enthusiast eager to live the North Shore lifestyle.

“Hale Komodo is an extraordinarily special home,” said Yano. “From the one-of-a-kind, hand-carved Balinese woodwork to the incredible sandy beach frontage.” Yano went on to say that the new homeowners plan to make only one change to the property—they will add a heater to the pool. “It’s truly a masterpiece,” Yano added, “rivaling any home in a traditional luxury enclave.”

Yano also noted that while the home was built ten years ago, it appears to be in nearly brand-new condition, thanks to hardy tropical woods—like teak and merbau, which are naturally termite-resistant and well-suited for Hawaii’s climate, as well meticulous home maintenance.

Former professional surfers themselves, Yano and Liu have an extensive network in the worldwide surfing community, as well as a deep knowledge of and appreciation for the rich surf culture that only Oahu’s North Shore offers.
