Windward Living with Sean Yano

By Sean Yano Realtor Associate

Growing up on the Windward side of Oahu has been a great experience for me, so much so that
I chose to raise my own children here as well. Besides the beautiful surroundings and scenery,
from the lush Koolau Mountain range to beautiful Lanikai Beach, Windward Oahu offers its
residents an easy, laid-back lifestyle that can't compare to any other area on the island.

It is an ideal location for families and anyone who loves the outdoors. For those who enjoy
hiking, there are several trails in the Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens, Maunawili Falls trail and the
Lanikai Pillbox trail, just to name a few. For the beach lovers, Lanikai and Kailua beaches are
top-rated and offer endless recreation from stand-up paddling, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing,
windsurfing and more. For those fortunate enough to own a boat or jetski, the Kaneohe Bay
sandbar, located about one mile offshore from Heeia Kea pier, is the go-to destination. There
are also several golf courses - MidPacific Country Club in Lanikai, Luana Hills Country Club  in
Maunawili, Koolau Golf Club and Bay View Golf Course in Kaneohe.

One thing I've always loved about living in Windward Oahu is the charming quality both Kaneohe
and Kailua have to offer. Life in Kaneohe is simple and uncomplicated. Although there are over
35,000 residents, its a close-knit community where you feel as if everyone knows your name.
Kailua is a true beach town offering a decidedly relaxed and laid-back lifestyle. Residents biking
to and from the beach and Kailua town is a common sight. In recent years, the centrally located
commercial district has undergone substantial improvements and upgrades. From unique
clothing boutiques, quaint coffee shops, and trendy restaurants, there is something for every
taste and style. The second Whole Foods market on the island is set to open in mid-April and
the newest Target store location is currently being built.

Real Estate in Kaneohe and Kailua

Within the Windward region, both Kaneohe and Kailua offer a wide variety of options in terms of real estate, from lower-priced
high-rise condominiums to multi-million dollar beachfront estates. Condos and townhomes in
Kaneohe range in price from the low $200,000s up to the high $500,000s for a townhouse in a
gated, marina-front community. Kaneohe single-family homes start in the low $400,000s and can
reach more than $3 million for a newly-built home on 20+ acres.
In Kailua, condos and townhomes range from the low $200,000s to the mid $700,000s. Singlefamily
homes, on the other hand, start at about $500,000 and reach as high as $30+ million for a
brand-new estate on Kailua Beach.

If you are in the market for a home, I would be glad to assist. Please contact me anytime!
