Kailua Bluffs - A Gem Nestled Against Mount Olomana

Kailua Bluffs is located on the south end of Kailua, closest to neighboring Waimanalo. It’s a small community comprised of young families and empty nesters. The area was originally developed as tract housing (Lone Star Hawaii Properties, Inc.) in the mid-1980s and later converted to custom, single-family homes in the early 1990s. In addition to the homes, there’s also a small cluster of townhomes located on Kahako Street.

My associate, Lauren Sanchez and her family are from Kailua Bluffs. Here is a photo of her father Carlos Sanchez in 1986, standing next to their home which was under construction. The photo below is the same home today.

Kailua Bluffs is strictly a residential community and its residents adore this delightful neighborhood. Keolu Elementary school is right down the hill, along with a skate park – one of the few on the island. Keolu Hills Neighborhood Park has spirited softball and baseball games during the sport’s season.

The Olomana golf course is a stone’s throw away if you want to pop over to the driving range. Because of its proximity to Waimanalo, the Waimanalo Polo Fields and horseback riding is about a five or 10-minute drive. And since this “country” neighbor is nearby, don’t be surprised if you see a peacock or two taking a morning stroll down your block.

Kailua Bluffs is part of Kailua town, so the beaches, shops, restaurants and services are all within a 10-minute drive. The commute to metro Honolulu is around 30 minutes; same to Hickam, the airport and Pearl Harbor. There are some homes with spectacular views of Kailua town and the ocean, but there is no disappointment with ambiance, as the majestic Mount Olomana (three peaks) is right outside your door.
