Moving to a new neighborhood is an exciting adventure. Getting to know the area can be fun, or maybe you are familiar with the area and just need make a few connections. Here are some recommendation:

Calculate School Drive Time

As we all know, traffic can be a mixed bag in our daily life in Hawaii. Make sure to calculate the drive time to and from school by doing dry runs during rush hour traffic times and less congested hours of the day.

Nearest Public Services Location

It’s always good to plan ahead for any situation. Knowing where the nearest Fire Department and Police Station are located will help you be prepared should something unforeseen happens in your home or neighborhood.

Strike up a Conversation

Go ahead and make the first move with your new neighbors. Give a wave and say hello as you see neighbors around the block. Your neighbors may not know when would be an appropriate time to stop by as you're moving in, so introducing yourself can be a great way to meet your neighbors and take a break from unpacking.

Invite Your New Neighborhood Friends Over

So, you’ve finally unpacked all your boxes and put everything nicely away in your cabinets and closets. Your furniture looks great in your new living room, and your yard is ready to be enjoyed. Now is the perfect time to invite your new neighbors over for a barbeque and get to know them on a social level. You’ll learn all about your new friends and the community you all share.

Go for a Family Walk

Explore your neighborhood with your keiki and bring your pets along as well. Stroll around the block to familiarize yourself with the area and don’t forget to say “Aloha!” to other families and neighbors that are out and about. You may find that someone has a daughter in the same grade as your child, or knows a great running path for you and your pup.

The agent that helped you find your new home has plenty of information and tidbits about your new neighborhood. They are one of your best resources for learning all about the area, especially since they already know you and your family’s wants and needs.
